In the fall semester, our Planned Parenthood affiliate contacted us telling us that the outreach program that was formerly named VOX- Voices of Planned Parenthood, was changing to Generation Action, and that campus groups would be Generation [location]. The board did not see any harm in doing so, and decided to go along with the name change for the time being.
We were contacted again recently with a message from our contact saying that all campus groups would instead be called "Generation Action." The board was unsure of a second change, and at last Saturday's general meeting a vote was called to make a final decision of the group's name. It was decided by a majority of the members that we will keep the original name Wooster VOX! Currently, the our name on twitter has been changed back to VOX, and we will be changing the URL of this website from generationwooster.weebly.com to woostervox.weebly.com soon.

Generation Wooster held our first GYT (Get Yourself Tested) of the year yesterday, November 18, in Scotlanes in Lowry Center. 100 people were tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea, and 25 people were tested for HIV. Being their second GYT event, it was their most successful, testing over 20 more people for chlamydia and gonorrhea, and testing for HIV for the first time. Food was provided by The Wooster Inn, along with $5 coupons to The Wooster Inn, and was enjoyed by many. Staff of the local Planned Parenthood clinic were present to run the sampling process, along with the Regional Public Affairs manager for Planned Parenthood NEO. We're very excited about the turnout, and hope to have at least one more next semester!
We got our first question over on AskTheVOX!
Q: What is a dental dam and why should I use one? --Anonymous A: A dental dam is a square sheet of latex (the same material condoms are made of) that have a variety of uses. In terms of sex, dental dams are used to protect individuals from STI's (STD's) who are participating in oral sex... To see the rest of the post head to our blog on AskTheVOX! Generation Wooster has recently began offering two brand new services on our Ask the Vox website.
First, Ask the Vox has an advice column, which takes anonymous questions pertaining to sexual health, and answers the questions on our "Ask the Vox Blog," as well as in the weekly POT. The questions then go to the Generation Wooster email, and members of the Generation Wooster board answer the questions on the Ask the Vox blog. Second, The Ask the Vox website also offers a "condom fairy" service, where CoW students can ask for condoms to be delivered to their campus mailbox. The condoms are delivered to the student's mailbox within three business days. Although this service is not completely anonymous (the campus post office requires a first name to deliver mail) our condom fairy service allows students to avoid the awkwardness of picking up condoms from the wellness center. |
